Eden is a series of watercolour postcards largely inspired by the Czech painter and illustrator Toyen. Toyen’s exploration of gender, identity and eroticism in the early twentieth-century reflected the feminist avant-garde optimism of the time, while living up to the spirit of the times by breaking conventions of feminine art and eroticism. Working on the postcards lead me to my own exploration and in the spirit of the playful, exploratory quality of Toyen’s illustrations, Eden was born.
